Middletown Meadow House

This Baltimore couple bought a sloping potato field that had the incredible potential to elegantly capture expansive views of the Sakonnet River. They wanted a house that would ‘look like it was always there.’ This part of Middletown has a history of farms and gambrel roof summer houses in the neighborhood.

We elevated the slope and placed the house so that french doors could open onto a large curved terrace that united first floor rooms of the house with the meadow and view. The interior and exterior finish was inspired by turn of the century shingle style houses with their bold moldings, steps down to the living room, local stone fireplace, bay window with a banquette, plus lots of built in storage.

The second floor can be accessed by the front stair hall and another ‘back stair’ which leads up to the two bedrooms and sitting area with a spiral stair up to the roof deck, perfect for star gazing over the Narraganset Bay and Sakonnet River!
